New to Campus? Here’s 8 Library Services You Should Know About!
New to campus? Returning after a long winter’s nap? Here’s a reminder of what the Library can do for you. We’ve summed it up in these Eight Great Library Services.
1. We’re Open Late!
The Library is open until 2:00 am Sunday through Thursday during the semester, and soon before Finals, we go 24/5. Full hours here: http://purchase.libguides.com/hours
2. We have over 200 computers.
We have more than 200 public computers, both PCs and Macs, that you can use whenever we’re open. Computers in the Digital Media Zone have advanced software on them. See the full list here: http://purchase.libanswers.com/a.php?qid=131370
3. Librarians Anytime
We can help you with your research anytime. You can:
- Chat online with a librarian 24/7 – Click the “Have a Question?” logo from the library homepage
- Text us your questions at 914-873-1711 – until 10 pm most nights
- See us in-person at the Reference Desk – until 6 pm Mon – Thurs, 4 pm on Fri, and select weekends
- Call us at 914-251-6410
4. Online Access to Thousands of Resources
Through our website: http://www.purchase.edu/library/, you have access to more than 60,000 online journals, magazines, and newspapers from anywhere. If you’re off campus, just use your Purchase username (your firstname.lastname) and your email password. You can also search our online catalog to see what books, DVDs, CDs, etc. we have at Purchase. Use the search box right in the middle of the Library homepage.
5. What is Moodle?
Moodle (http://moodle.purchase.edu/) is the campus’ virtual learning environment. You are automatically enrolled in your courses on Moodle, where you’ll have access to course materials (i.e. syllabi, readings, etc.), a variety of learning activities, as well as a number of ways to connect with your professor and classmates. Your Moodle login is your Purchase username (your firstname.lastname) and your email password.
In addition to posting course readings in Moodle, some professors put books, DVDs, CDs, etc. on Reserve in the Library. Look in your Moodle course’s Purchase Library Reserves block for a list of what’s on reserve. Click on the title to view the call number and bring it to the Circulation Desk.
7. Want Something We Don’t Have?
Use interlibrary loan (ILL). ILL isn’t just for books. You can request articles via interlibrary loan, too. Articles typically arrive as pdfs in your ILL account within a few days! Use the “interlibrary loan” link from the left side of the Library homepage.
