Don’t forget to vote! Primary elections 9/9/14
You’ve probably seen “Vote Here” signs around campus today. Purchase College is a local polling place where registered voters can vote in the primary election. Last year, only 20% of registered voters in New York City voted in primary elections. That means those who vote can have a big impact on the candidate that will go on to represent their party in the general elections in November. There are a number of important primaries in New York state today including races for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and state legislature, and U.S. Congress.
Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo is facing a challenge in the primaries from Fordham law professor Zephyr Teachout and her running mate Tim Wu. You can read about the contest between Cuomo and Teachout in the New York Times.
Not sure what voting district you are in? Not registered? You can look up your district and register to vote in the next (November) elections on this website from the New York League of Women Voters and from the New York State Board of Elections.
